A loyalty card with no app to download

Perkfull loyalty cards live in Apple Wallet and Google Wallet — apps every phone already has — so joining takes one QR scan and one tap. No download, no account creation, no password. That removes the single biggest reason loyalty programs die: nobody installs the app.

The app problem, measured at the counter

Every loyalty app dies the same way, and it dies at the counter. There's a queue. You ask the customer to download an app, and you're really asking for six things: find it in the store, wait for the download, create an account, verify an email or phone number, invent a password, and grant notification permissions — all while someone waits behind them. Most people politely say "next time." The ones who do install open a branded loyalty app a handful of times before it slides to a home-screen folder and, eventually, the delete screen. The program didn't fail because the rewards were wrong; it failed at distribution.

The fix isn't a better app. It's using the two apps already on every phone: Apple Wallet, built into every iPhone and impossible to uninstall, and Google Wallet, preinstalled on Android phones sold in the UAE. Perkfull issues your loyalty card as a pass in whichever wallet the customer already has.

What enrolment looks like instead

  1. The customer points their camera at the QR code by your till.
  2. They tap the link — it detects their phone and offers the right pass.
  3. They tap Add to Wallet. Done — enrolled, first stamp on the card.

About ten seconds, no account, no password, nothing to remember. That difference compounds: a program that enrols in one tap at the counter grows every single day it's running, because saying yes costs the customer nothing.

An example program, end to end. Nothing is installed at any point: the card lives in the wallet app the phone already came with, and the reward arrives as a notification.

"But without an app, don't I lose…?" — the honest answers

What apps promiseWhat the wallet pass does
Push notifications Wallet passes receive push messages directly — campaigns, birthday wishes and reward alerts land on the lock screen from the pass itself
Live balances Stamps, points and tiers are printed on the pass and update within seconds of the till
Your brand on their phone The pass carries your logo, colours and photo — sitting next to their bank cards, not buried in a folder
Customer data & segments Consent-first sign-up feeds the same dashboard, segments and automations an app backend would
What you skip: app-store reviews, update cycles, and the permanent marketing tax of begging for installs

No app on the staff side either

The counter half of most loyalty systems is its own installation project — dedicated scanners, POS plugins, a tablet app to keep updated. Perkfull's staff scanner is a web page. Any phone or tablet opens it, staff log in with a PIN, scan the customer's pass and tap to stamp, award points or redeem. If the customer's phone is dead, a phone-number lookup covers it. Every action lands in an activity ledger with fraud flags, so going app-less costs you none of the accountability.

The two edge cases, handled

"What if the customer doesn't have a wallet app?" On iPhone this doesn't occur — Apple Wallet is part of iOS. On Android, Google Wallet ships preinstalled on phones sold in the UAE; on the rare device without it, it's a free instant install from the Play Store, still far short of creating an account in a branded app.

"What about customers who don't use smartphone wallets at all?" They exist, and the phone-number lookup means staff can still find and stamp their record. Nobody is turned away; the wallet pass is simply the fast path most customers take.

What it costs, in dirhams

Everything above — wallet passes on both platforms, unlimited customers, the staff scanner, push messages, birthday club and welcome bonus — starts at AED 149/month on Starter. No per-customer fees and no app-development line item: the six-figure cost of building and maintaining a branded loyalty app is the bill this whole approach deletes. Annual billing is two months free.

FAQ

Questions, answered

How do customers join without an app?

They point their camera at the QR code on your counter, tap the link, and tap Add to Wallet. The pass lands next to their bank cards. The whole flow is about ten seconds, and there is no account creation or password step to abandon.

What about customers' phones — does this work on both iPhone and Android?

Yes. iPhones have Apple Wallet built in and non-removable; Android phones in the UAE ship with Google Wallet. One QR code serves both — the link detects the phone and issues the right pass automatically.

Do my staff need an app?

No. Staff open the scanner as a web page on any phone or tablet, log in with a PIN, and scan customer passes there. Nothing to install on either side of the counter.

Without an app, how do I message my customers?

Wallet passes receive push messages directly — announcements, birthday wishes, win-back offers all arrive as notifications from the pass itself. You get the messaging benefit of an app without asking anyone to install one, and without collecting phone numbers for SMS.

Is a wallet pass really enough, or will I outgrow it?

The pass carries stamps, points balances, VIP tiers, live updates and push messages — the loyalty features an app would give you. What you skip is the part that hurts: app-store review cycles, forcing installs, and the marketing cost of convincing customers to keep an app they'll open twice.
